Rice exports hit 3.3 million tonnes in seven months

Vietnam shipped 3.3 million tonnes of rice in the first seven months of the year, valued at USD1.4 billion, a 9% decrease in volume and a 5.5% reduction in value year on year, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

However, the most significant highlight in rice exports from the start of the year was the sharp rise in export volume of high-end rice.

Specifically, luxury (five-percent broken) rice made up 28.8% of the country’s export volume, a nearly 30% increase compared to the same period last year. Perfumed rice ranked second with 24.67% of the total, a year-on-year surge of15.36%.

Thanks to increases in the two types of rice, Vietnamese rice regained market share in many countries.
